Activities at Saturday's Arts and Crafts Day in Central Park will include an Army helicopter, piloted by CWO Lester Harlan, to be on hand at 9 a.m. at the Marion Airport, a group of huge jet airplanes from the Kansas Air National Guard will fly over at 1 p.m., two hot air balloons will fly over with private planes, and an exhibit of aircraft display will be presented by Beach, Piper and Cessna.

The 49th annual Marion County Fair begins this week in Hillsboro with competitive events for farmers, bakers and bikers.

School starts next week. Mom will have a little peace and quiet around the house for a welcome change — before she gets lonesome.

Mrs. Joe Zinn and Mrs. Timothy Herman attended the Oil Show at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas, from Aug. 1 to 5. They were there to distribute the paper, Oiltizer, that is being distributed from Lost Springs.

Three Marion High School students attended the annual marching band clinic at Wichita State University last week. The three who attended were Joan Hiebert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hiebert; Penny Burkholder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Burkholder; and Lisa Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wilson.

Marion Motor Center has expanded into a new glass fronted building. The modern structure will house better used cars, according to Gerry Harris, owner. The new car showroom will remain in the building to the east. This new building is an attractive addition of Marion's business district.

Bud Kelsey, a Marion native, has been appointed public works director and Barney McCarty, formerly of Florence, has been appointed chief of Police at Hillsboro. McCarty has been a lieutenant in the police department for the past five years. Kelsey has been acting public works director for one year.

Eastmoor United Methodist Church was the setting for the wedding of Cindy Carlson and Charles Edward Reece Jr. at 2 p.m. July 28. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Jerry Calvert.
