Don Peachey and his popular polka band will be in Pilsen at 9 p.m. Aug. 25 for a one night stand at the Starlite Ballroom. Peacheys is one of the most popular polka music groups in Wisconsin.
It was refreshing Saturday evening to meet with three young medical doctors who have several things in common. All are natives of Marion who graduated from Marion High School and from the University of Kansas Medical School. And they all shared in the generous provisions of the James Ryan Scholarship. Dr. John Loney, Dr. Carol Bowers Johnson, and Dr. Mike Good met with a group of people for dinner at Kingfisher's Inn. Purpose of the meeting which was hosted by the physician recruitment committee of St. Luke Hospital, was to get some input from these young physicians.
Nine members of KanzAton Junior Club went to Hesston recently for an evening at the Colonial House dinner-theatre. Those enjoying the outing were Janet Bryant, Celia Byer, Julie Fischer, Shirley Jo Hett, Jo Ellen McPheeters, Helen Reznicek, Linda Risenhoover, Frances White, and Sue Williams.
Jim Schroeder Jr. of Hillsboro played the Marion Country Club golf course in championship style Sunday, recording a two under par 70 to win the Marion Country Club Open. First flight winner was Bernie Waner, Marc Smith captured first place in the second flight, and Pat Swartz of Emporia won the third flight.
Kerry Friesen, pictured, is not much larger than the 11 1/4 pound cantaloupe grown by her grandmother, Mrs. Carl Friesen. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Friesen of Hutchinson, Kerry is the youngest person to enter the Produce Derby this season.
Several donors received recognition pins at the American Red Cross Bloodmobile's semi-annual visit on Friday. Eugene Christensen and A.J. Coe received pins for having donated five gallons of blood. Gene Winkler and Cora Loomis were awarded three-gallon pins, and Harvey Sanders and Jim Richmond received two-gallon pins.
