A violent storm with heavy rain and hurricane force winds cause widely scattered damage this past weekend in Marion County. The most extensive damage occurred late Sunday afternoon at Marion Reservoir. The powerful blasts of wind ripped apart a trailer home in the Eastshore Development area. The unoccupied trailer home was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Ira Coons of Peabody.

If you see a bright red Plymouth Volare motoring down a street or country road with no one behind the wheel, look again. It probably is Harold Keazer, rural mail carrier, in his new, inventive vehicle designed expressly for convenience in servicing rural mail homes.

New officers for the coming year will be installed when Marion Kiwanis Club meets Monday. Charles Dannenfelser will be installed as president.

Connie Kerbs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Kerbs of Tampa, has received recognition for outstanding achievement in career education at Brown Mackie College, Salina. Kerbs is enrolled in the court reporting program. She is a 1976 graduate of Centre High School.

Jeff Brewer, vocal music instructor at Marion High School, has released the names of the 1978-79 Swing Singers, who are: Sopranos — Laura Laubhan, Georgia Kline, Renda Thompson, Julie Hett, Linda Schaffer; Altos — Janelle Bowers, Donita Makovec, Patti Fruechting, Lori Hett, Sherri Kelly; Tenors — Jerry Hett, Chuck Gough, Kevin Wilson, Greg Boyle, Paul Loney; Basses — Doug Heerey, Jay Smith, Bill Hoch, Brian Bowers, Brad Seifert.

Sharon Costello, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Costello of Tampa, was introduced Thursday evening at the eighth annual dinner meeting of St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary as the winner of this year's $300 scholarship. Costello is studying physical therapy at Wichita State University where she is a freshman. She is a graduate of Centre High School.
