Smoky Hill Construction Co. workers are installing the four-foot diameter steel tube which will carry Luta Creek water through the earth fill that replaces the concrete bridge on Main Street. Curious onlookers line the rails of the old bridge daily, watching progress and discussing the merits of the near roadway.
Sarah Powell brought two trays of hot homemade rolls to the Record office Wednesday for the staff to enjoy on the Ol' Thing's 113th birthday. It was a difficult decision to determine whether the pecan or cinnamon rolls were best, but it was an enjoyable dilemma.
Several hoboes gathered at the home of Charlotte and Eric Thies Friday evening for a "Hobo Party." After preparing their "hobo stew," cooked on coals in the ground, they ran an obstacle course and played many games. Guests were Shelly Bruner, Lori Lalouette and Kelly Linnens of Florence, Larry Dalrymple, Lilly Guerra, Jerry Hess, Andy Hett, Shannon Klein, Jennifer McLain, Allison Ogden, Robin Summervill, Rick Toon, Jeff Williams, and Ed Zeller.
The engagement of Carol Diane Gill to Randal Boyd Vogel is announced by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dwain G. Gill of Sylvia and Mr. and Mrs. James E. Vogel of Marion. A Nov. 13 wedding is planned.
Susan Higgins of Marion earned top honors and achieved the highest score of all shooters in the annual Texas Invitational Rifle Tournament held Sept. 25 at Austin, Texas. A member of the Eastern New Mexico University team of Portales, N.M., she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Higgins of Marion.
Ramona folks are arranging what may be the first parade in their town's history Saturday at the annual "Oktoberfest" celebration. Ramona Red Chiefs 4-H Club sponsors the festival every year as a community activity and money making project. Activities begin at 6 p.m. with the parade. Neva Applegate, a long-time resident of the town, said she cannot remember the last time the city had a parade down Main Street. The last organized event on Main Street was a donkey race many years ago.
