Volunteer workers spent more than three hours Monday evening of last week cleaning weeds and grass from curbs, sidewalks and lots on Main Street. They were getting the downtown area in shape for PRIDE judges on Thursday and the annual visit of old settlers on Saturday.
Gerry Harris and Max Hayen met with city commissioners Monday in regard to paving the north-south 2,600-foot runway at the airport.

Residents of the 400 and 500 blocks of North Freeborn have newly blacktopped streets, complete with cub and gutter. The same two blocks on North Roosevelt also are under construction this fall.
Mr. and Mrs. Rosse Case returned Monday after spending nine days in the Hawaiian Islands. They attended the 85th annual convention of the Independent Insurance Agents of America in Honolulu, Oahu, and also spent two days on Maui.

Amy Raleigh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Raleigh of Marion, was the winner of a new bicycle awarded this week by Quality Food Market. The bike was a prize offered in connection with a promotion on large bottles of 7-Up, RC Cola, and root beer.
Senior citizens representing Marion County attended a training seminar on Friday at Rock Springs Ranch. Among those present were Bill Hiebert, bus driver; Noreen Weems, director of the Department of Elderly; Lester and Mila Henderson, Herb Wullschleger, Jo McKean, Dean Siegfried, Patricia Huls, Velda Gunter, Alma Wedel, Boyde and Connie Coffey, Wanda Riffel, Hanna Brunner and Golda Masten.
