St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary realized a goal set in early 1978 by presenting two $300 scholarships at the organization's annual meeting. The awards went to Alan Bina, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bina and Sue Fruechting, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fruechting. Bina is a junior pre-pharmacy student at Emporia State University. He plans to complete his education at the University of Kansas. Fruechting is a physician's assistant student in the College of Health Related Professions at Wichita State University.
"The John Frantz People, from Central Poland in Kansas," a new book, will be presented at the John Frantz family seventh reunion Sunday in the Hillsboro Elementary School. The 280-page book, written by Raymond F. Wiebe of Wichita State University, traces the beginnings of the Hollander Anabaptist Mennonite communities in the Vistula River valley.
Jerry Winkley, Danny Snelling, and Warren Hager, three Marion High School vocational agricultural students, have been selected to be among the top winners in the National Future Farmers of America proficiency award program.
Debbie Deines is Centre's homecoming queen. Her king is Dennis Fike. The royal court included queen candidates Debbie Miller, Judy Nowak, and Joyce Noone. Their escorts were Kevin Carlson, Brad Matz, and Steve Jirak.
Msgr. Arthur Tonne presided for the 19th time Thursday noon at the annual meeting of Senior Citizens of Marion County. Two hundred thirty members were in attendance at the meeting held in St. Mark's Activity Center.
The Marion Warriors marching band, under the direction of Larry Lillard, will be one of 15 high school bands to be presented in a mass concert Oct. 27 at Wichita State University. It will be Band Day and they will appear during the half-time show of the game between the WSU Shockers and West Texas State.
Mr. and Mrs. Rick Just announce the birth on Oct. 15 of their first child, a son, Todd Geoffrey.
