Marion City Commissioners authorized issuance of up to $65,000 in industrial revenue bonds Monday for the construction of an addition to Mid- America Nursing Center of Marion. The 73-bed nursing home will be enlarged to include more area for recreational program. A room now reserved for that purpose will be returned to patient-care use, adding three beds to the facility.
Tressie Ford, Hazel Ecker, and Evelyn Stage receive boxed necklaces and red silk roses from the Auxiliary to Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW Post 6958. The Gold Star Mothers each lost a son in military service and are remembered each year by the club on Gold Star Mothers' Day observed annually on the last Sunday in September.
Bill Meyer, editor of the Marion County Record, has been appointed to the 14-member Freedom of Information Committee of the National Newspaper Association in Washington, D.C.
Marion High School homecoming queen was installed Friday night at half-time of the Marion-Centre football game. Crowned queen was Jandee Smith. Her escort was Doug Heerey. Other candidates and their escorts were Donna Stovall and Casey Case, Renda Thompson and Danny Snelling.
Fashion-conscious and fashion-interested persons had a rare opportunity Sunday afternoon to view some of the best in fall and winter fashions at a fall fashion preview at St. Mark's Activity Center. Sponsoring the event were the Sassy Shop and Jackson's Men's and Boys' Wear.
Part of a tree that once graced the banks of the Cottonwood River near Marion will be transported to Maryland en route to the National Future Farmers of America Alumni convention. Cut in a sawmill owned by the Jim Hett family of rural Aulne, the rough lumber will be finished into the official state of Kansas placard at the National FFA convention. Several alumni in the Marion-Florence area plan to organize a local alumni chapter. Members of the local alumni relations committee include Connie McCarty, Steve Gayle, Ronnie Woerz, Roger Maag, Craig Shanklin, and Ronnie Hardey.
