Marion County voters followed statewide trends in Tuesday's General Election, splitting their votes between Republican and Democratic candidates. Incumbent Congressman Dan Glickman, a Democrat, won every precinct. Nancy Kassebaum of Wichita, also swept every precinct, defeating Bill Roy, a Topeka physician and former congressman. However Robert Bennett, incumbent Republican governor, nearly defeated Democratic Speaker of the House, John Carlin of Smolan.

The public is invited to the official ground-breaking ceremony for Mid-America Nursing Center on Sunday, according to Barbara Longhofer, administrator.

Several members of the Marion High School FFA chapter traveled to Centre High School Oct. 30 to participate in the organizational process of a potential Center High School FFA chapter there. Marion students attending included Julie Weigart, Brad Herbel, Debbie Hett, Rick Siebert, Trudy Ratzloff, Rod Just, Connie McCarty, and Ron Wineinger.

St. Mark's CYO participated in the one-act play festival on Sunday at Pilsen. The cast, consisting of Jamie Richmond, Bruce Winkler, Sherry Kelly, Mickey Costello, Sherry Snelling and Jackie Richmond, presented the play, "Another Cinderella." Sherry Kelly received the "best actress" award and the play placed third.

A birthday tea commemorating the Christian Church's 100th year in Marion was celebrated Sunday afternoon, with many church members as well as former members and out-of-town guests attending.

Those attending a party Friday afternoon to celebrate the fourth birthday of Thurston Thies were Aaron Long, Ashlee Loomis, Bryan Padgham, Leslie Sieger, Kay Lynn and Tim Summervill, Lori Tice, Natalie Thies, John Wheeler, Mrs. Skip Sieger, Mrs. Mick Summervill, and Mrs. Wayne Thies.

Diana Case, bride-elect of Chris Costello, was honored with a shower Sunday at the Roger Hannaford residence. Hostesses were Mrs. Hannaford, Mrs. Matthew Classen, Mrs. Jack Beaston, Mrs. Dean Batt, and Mrs. Ray Longhofer.
