"Christmas — The Light of Life" is the theme for this year's Christmas season. The lively and contagious atmosphere already may be felt, as store windows come alive with red, green, and silver tinsel and cold winds make shoppers shiver on the sidewalks.
After nearly 40 years as a department store catering to both sexes, Jackson's of Marion is once again a men's store. "We make the change to better serve out customers in Marion and the surrounding area by offering a complete line of clothing for men, yes," Jeannette Jackson, store owner George Jackson's wife.
Roads glazed by freezing rain did not keep 400 or more farmers and ranchers from attending the annual Farm-City Appreciation Night steak fry Monday night in the basement of Marion Municipal Building.
Marion Warriors return six lettermen from last year's basketball squad, including the entire starting line-up. They are sophomore Greg Boyle and seniors Jay Smith, Jeff Richmond, Doug Heerey, Jerry Hett, and Darrin Hett.
Trent Richmond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delton Richmond, was 11 years old Nov. 20. Kevin Burkholder accompanied Trent home from school on Friday and spent the night at the Richmond Home. On Saturday, a party was held with Jay Sandwell, Jeff Keller, Mike Loomis, and Brian Dannenfelser as additional guests. The boys enjoyed playing games and were served refreshments of cake and ice cream.
Ed Hett, a second year medical student at the University of Kansas College of Health Sciences in Kansas City, has been awarded the James T. Ryan Scholarship, according to Todd Seymour, president of the KU Endowment Association. The son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Hett of rural Peabody, Hett is a graduate of Marion High School and Tabor College. Last year he shared the scholarship with Dr. Michael Good of Marion, who is now a physician in a three-year residency program at Wichita.
