For the second year in a row, the City of Marion placed first in community development at the annual PRIDE awards convention held Saturday in Salina. Marion placed highest among the 12 cities or comparable population entered in the competition. PRIDE judges said the city received 100 out of a possible 100 points.
After battling three days of cold weather, Arlene Smith recently won the Los Altos Women's' Golf Association's club championship with a three-stroke victory of Kay Kanjer. Mrs. Smith, of Albuquerque, N.M., is the daughter of Lillian Pierce of Marion.
Over 25,000 members of the Future Farmers of America from all 50 states and Puerto Rico are expected to attend the national convention in Kansas City this week. Marion High School students slated to attend include Terry Olsen, Kathy Hayes, Brenda Ellis, Rod Just, Jenny McGuire, Lori Kelsey, Doug Kjellin, Donna Berg, Randy Savage and Ron and Matt Wineinger.
Ramona Zeller, a member of Marion Senior Girl Scout Troop 61 and the daughter of Sherrill Zeller, was one of 500 selected to attend the 1980 Girl Scout program conference in Oklahoma City. Ramona was one of six girls selected from the Flint Hills Council.
The City Squares square dance club held election of officers at a recent meeting. Those elected were: Ralph and Bertha Linnens, Cedar Point, president; Wolter and Doris Floyd, Burdick, vice president; Charles and Elsie Winkley, Marion, secretary; Dean and Bettie Batt, Marion, treasurer; and Max and Elizabeth Buck, Marion, publicity.
