Reindeer strike a seasonal prairie pose near a windmill at the Ern Hett farm east of Aulne. The small herd, built from wooden logs and branches, even features a likeness of "Rudolph," who has a red bulb on his nose. The herd of homemade reindeer have attracted interest among the hundreds of persons who visit Hett's Copper Shed. They are another example of his talent at turning ordinary items into objects of art.
Marion city officials faced a tough problem Monday afternoon, one that had no happy solution. And, after a long period of deliberation, finally voted reluctantly to allow the oak tree at the foot of Elm Street to be destroyed.
Alex Case, local insurance agent and real estate broker, has been elected president of the Marion Chamber of Commerce for the 1983 year.
Mrs. Art Meierhoff of Marion is the first place winner in the annual Marion County Record subscription contest. Her award is a $100 gift certificate. Second prize goes to Alma Fisher of Marion. It is a $50 gift certificate. Third prize, a $25 gift certificate, goes to Ralph Mathews of Marion.
The staff of the Marion County Record gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Meyer Wednesday evening to begin an evening of Christmas "fun." Following dinner at Kingfisher's Inn, the group went to the home of Mrs. Wharton Hoch for visiting and games. Others present were: Deb Hamilton of Wichita, Patrick Fox, Melvin Honeyfield, Mr. and Mrs. Monette Avery, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jirak, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Summerville, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Bernhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Marler, Craig Brock, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wray, Mrs. Paul Williams, and Mrs. Otto Meyer.
Robin Summervill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mick Summervill of Marion, was awarded a black and white portable television set Monday for raising over $190 in contributions in the American Lung Association's Superkids competition held this fall in Marion. Jennifer McLain, who finished second in overall competition, received a $40 gift certificate and Alison Ogden received a personalized director's chair for placing fourth.
