Members of the Marion City Commission met with John Henderson of the Kansas Water Resources Board Monday afternoon and concluded, after many facts were presented, that they should start negotiating for water from Marion Lake, the federal reservoir three miles northwest of town.
A garden and yard fire got out of control south of the old creek bed between Second and Third streets Saturday afternoon, creating extensive smoke downtown for several hours.
Bruce Winkler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Winkler of Marion, has been selected for honorable mention honors in the essay contest recently conducted by the Grand Lodge of Kansas.
Marion High School had three seniors named to the Burrton Invitational Tournament all-star team. Aaron Hett was named the tournament's most valuable player and selected to the first all-star team; Greg Boyle was selected to the first all-star team; Kevin Jirak was named to the second all-star team; and Monte Dalke, was runner up in the freshman free throw competition.
Mary Kay Waner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Waner of Marion, has been listed on the dean's honor roll for the first semester term at Marymount College, Salina.
Geraldine Seibel, clerk of the district court for Marion County, was recognized Wednesday for 25 years service to the judicial district. Seibel received a gold-filled pen, a letter from Howard Schwarts, state judicial administrator, and a copy of the supreme court order recognizing her for court service.
