Timothy L. Newfield, 19, convicted slayer of Peabody banker Grant Avery, was sentenced to life imprisonment for aggravated kidnapping Friday morning in Marion County District Court. Judge George F. Scott also sentenced Newfield to not less than 15 years nor more than life for second degree murder, 15 years to life for aggravated robbery, and five to 20 years for aggravated burglary. Each term will be served consecutively, the judge ruled.

Marion FFA members attended the Western Farm Show at Kansas City Feb. 26. Students in attendance were Ramona Zeller, Randy Richmond, Kevin Robinson, Terry Olsen, Doug Kjellin, Jerry Fowler, Jim Padgett, Jenny McGuire, Daron Hodges, Brenda Ellis, Jay Christensen, Bruce Williams, John McGuire, Danny Ellis, Alan Hett, Rick Siebert, Rod Just, and Dennis Bernhardt.

Monsignor Arthur Tonne, pastor of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church at Pilsen, will be a speaker at a two-day conference being sponsored on Wednesday and Thursday of this week at Emporia State University by the Kansas Association for Aging in Higher Education and the Kansas Citizens Council on Aging.

Breakfast at the Owl Car Café Monday honored the birthdays of Mrs. Earl Hett and Mrs. Ike Klein. Those who came to help them celebrate were Mr. and Mrs. J.L.
