A capacity crowd from throughout the community flocked to Eastmoor United Methodist Church Sunday evening to hear "The Messiah" by Handel presented by the Marion Community Chorus. The two hour performance was directed by Jeff Brewer and was a Marion Community Arts Council project.

The Longhofer brothers, Ray and Rusty, have donated a large lot on South Third Street as the site for the proposed new senior citizens center in Marion. The donated site is just south of the Santa Fe tracks on South Third Street.

A miscellaneous bridal shower was held in Wichita March 24 to compliment two cousins who will be married in the near future. One of the honorees was Teresa Costello, the other was her cousin, Susan Hajek. Hostesses for the shower were Rosemary Lewis, Janet and Julie, at whose home the event occurred, Florence Scanlan, Ann and Kelly, and Anna Marie Bergkamp and Betty.

Alice Hockensmith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hockensmith of Florence, was a second place winner in the 1979 Kansas Press Women youth writing contest in the editorial division. Her editorial was entitled "School Board Ruffles Feathers," and was published in the Marion County Record.

Marion may be represented in the Boston marathon this year. At least a native Marionite has been invited to participate in that event which creates national publicity each year. Leslie Powell of Tucson, Ariz., retired Air Force colonel and jet pilot, is an active jogger and runner. He is the son of Mrs. Leslie Powell of Marion and her late husband, Les.
