The redevelopment plan for downtown Marion, as proposed following a study made by the Kansas Department of Economic Development, will be presented at a public meeting May 5 in Marion Municipal Building.
Jim Lehrer, co-anchorman of the nationally televised MacNeil/Lehrer Report and author of the book "We Were Dreamers," visited Marion Saturday while on his way to be host of the Messiah Festival broadcast at Lindsborg. He enjoyed visiting with Mrs. Ralph Melton and with former seventh grade classmates at the home of Bill and Joan Meyer.
Featured for this week's "Personality Profile" by Ruth Meyer is J.B. Miesse, who is "happy in an occupation he enjoys best of all."
Ten area residents were among the Wichita State University students honored April 5 at the annual WSU honors convocation. They were Patricia Fruechting, Julie Matthews, Denise Wiens Hett, and Sharon Kroupa, Marion; Mark Robinson, Florence; Nancy Wedel Burns; Mark Schroeder, Hillsboro; Ethel Plett, Lehigh; and Jamie Crawford, Peabody.
The annual recital of Mary Ann's School of Dance will be held Friday and Saturday in Marion Municipal Auditorium. Participating routines include the
"Pompon Girls," Robin Monroe, Tondalayo Frantz, Carol Laue, Shelly Moore, Robin Schiedeman, Amy White, Loriann Laubhan, Stephanie Summerville, and Tonja Jensen.
Bev Bezdek, a junior at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, has been chosen as a candidate for "Miss Wesleyan, 1981." She is one of five candidates to be crowned queen Saturday at the Lilac Fete Festival. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bezdek of Florence.
