Marion City commissioners approved a new contract with Utility Consultant, Inc., at their regular meeting Monday. UCI operates and services the city owned cablevision utility.

Dave Owen, former lieutenant governor of Kansas and a 1982 Republican candidate for Governor, will be the featured speaker at the annual summer salad luncheon of the Marion County Republican Women. The meeting will be held at noon Tuesday in the community room of the First National Bank at Hillsboro.

Lola Washmon, Hillsboro, has been named branch manager of the Marion and Hillsboro offices of First Federal Savings and Loan.

Two Peabody men are undergoing rabies treatment in Newton after they were bitten by bats last week. Roland Flores, 32, was attacked last Monday, and Ed Carr, 16, was bitten on Friday near their homes on the 100 block of South Olive. Both men were bitten on the head.

The bridge over Luta Creek, just east of the Marion Post Office, will be the topic of a public meeting to be held Tuesday. Representatives of the Kansas Department of Transportation will meet with city commissioners and all interested people to evaluate the present bridge and to present suggestions for the future.

Barbara Jean Hoffner and Perry Lee Steiner exchanged double ring marriage vows May 23 in the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, Salina. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hoffner of Cedar Point. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Steiner of Durham are parents of the groom

Daniel D. Ludwig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Ludwig, Florence, will participate for the third year in the Kansas Truck Roadeo, June 12-13 at Schilling Air Force Base, Salina.

Jayson Hanschu of Ramona and Karla Konecny of Pilsen represented Marion County at the 14th annual Youth Safety Seminar, sponsored by Farm Bureau at Camp Wa Shun Ga near Junction City last week.
