Aghast at the number of grassfires caused by fireworks the weekend before Independence Day, Marion city commissioners Monday warned the community's residents of the extreme fire hazard situation caused by the recent dry spell.
For the third time in two weeks, food has been the popular burglary item in Marion County. The string of grocery thefts began June 22 with the theft of over $100 in food and beer from Meier's Café in Durham. Another burglary that same night, at the Crossroads Co-Op resulted in the loss of $50 worth of pizzas, $10 worth of wieners and $25 worth of cheese. The latest loss was $140 worth of meat stolen at the Norman Katz residence, four miles north and three east of Hillsboro.
Marlene Pfeiffer, bride-elect of John Goentzel, was guest of honor June 28 at a come and go shower at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Hostesses were Norma Kline, Judy Christensen, Doris Ewert, Lois Anderson, Feebie Smith and Vivian Conyers.
The seventh birthday of Sheldon Bina was celebrated June 28 at a party in Central Park planned by his mother, Mrs. Martin Bina. Invited guests were Tim Makovec, Kent Mitchell, Glenn Krispense Matt Peterson, Gary Klose, David Whitcomb, Jason Bernhardt, Chad Christensen, Chris Stinchcomb, Chris Hett Mike Kline, Daniel Burton and Brian Crofoot.
Amy Hett is the Marion County Record's Player of the Week. She earned the designation by pitching a two-hitter against Peabody and batting .667. Amy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hett and will be a sophomore at Marion High School this fall.
