Approval or disapproval of a water contract for the city of Marion to buy water from Marion Reservoir through the Water Resources Board will not be made until at least September, according to Francine Neubauer, director of WRB.
Robert Craft, Clay Center, has been named to the Marion County district of the Kansas Highway Patrol, according to a letter from the department's headquarters in Topeka. Craft replaces Sgt. John Stultz, who has been transferred to KHP Division IV headquarters in Chanute.
Thad Cork and Trevor Mitchell, both of Marion, have taken first place in the Kansas Women's Christian Temperance Union essay contest. Both students advance to state competition by winning first place in the local contest.
Benjamin Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Jackson, celebrated his third birthday with a party at his home July 2. Friends invited were Michael Burton, Joshua Cooper, Eric Brian Loomis, Jason Wheeler, Christopher Darrow, Seth Martin and Jon Padgham.
Members of the Marion High School Class of 1961 paid a visit back to their alma mater Saturday. In all, 27 former Warriors showed up for the morning tour. The group held a special dinner later that evening.
A birthday party was given in Central Park July 2 to celebrate the fifth birthday of Natalie Thies. Those enjoying refreshments were Aaron Helmer, Charlie Helmer, Deana Hoffman, Kayla Jensen, Kay Lynn Summervill, Tim Summervill and Thurston Thies. Charlotte Thies, Eric Thies and Sheri Plenert helped with the games.
There was a distinguished visitor at the county lake this weekend. Governor Carlin and his family and a highway patrolman attended the Fourth of July festivities in Wichita. Jane Gilchrist, who works in the state house, had offered them the use of her cabin on Rock Road. The group spent most of Sunday at the lake, quite a bit of time at the beach.
