Marion city commissioners, still trying to cope with the month-long drouth, voted Monday to ask Marion residents to refrain from watering lawns and washing cars.

Even the clowns couldn't keep from frowning occasionally as their make-up melted in the sizzling Saturday sun. Forrest Kelsey led the parade that is the finale of the July Jamboree. More than 39 clowns participated. Jack Summerville won the prize for the best clown costume in the 18 and older division. Scott Heidebrecht won the 12-17 category and Jessica Ash was first in the 1 to 11 category.

More than two million visitors were counted during the July Fourth weekend at the 35 lake and navigation projects operated by the U.S. Army Engineer District, Tulsa. Marion Lake is one of the six Tulsa District lakes.

Les and Celia Byers are remodeling the old creamery building at First and Main and plan to open their Flint Hills Stone Ware shop in that location.

Ed and Mary Costello of Marion have been appointed chairmen of Dan Glickman's 1980 campaign to retain his House of Representatives seat.

Mike Kelsey is the Marion County Record's Player of the Week. The 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kelsey is a pitcher and catcher for Jackson's Junior Babe Ruth baseball team.

Jan Nuss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Nuss, Marion, Greta Helmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Helmer, Marion, and Kim Schaffer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schaffer, Florence, will be this year's Marion entries in the Junior Miss competition at Herington.
