After 18 years of delays, protests and promises — plus over 30 years of discussion — the Kansas Department of Transportation has approved plans to relocate a 14-mile stretch of U.S.-56 between U.S.-77 and K-15. The new route will follow a path one mile north of Marion.

Congressman Dan Glickman held Town Hall meetings in Florence, Tampa and Hillsboro Thursday. At Tampa, he explained his change of position on President Carter's grain embargo against the Soviet Union. He believes the president was wrong in ordering the embargo.

Gena Helmer of Marion won the title of 1980 Tri-County Junior Miss at Monday's program in Herington. The 17-year-old won both the poise and confidence and talent competitions.

A kitchen shower was held at the home of Mrs. Terry Vinduska July 20 honoring Lori Schmidtberger, bride-elect of Pat Loney. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Lou Vinduska, Mrs. George Waner and Mrs. E.J. Konecny.

Kathy Kelsey Rathert daughter of Mrs. Don Kelsey, Marion, received her dental assisting certificate from Foothill Community College in Los Altos Hills, Calif., where she has completed a one year program and graduated with honors.

Births announced in this issue included a son, Abraham Guy, born to Mr. and Mrs. George Jackson of Marion; a son, Quinn Ernest, born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holub, Marion; and a daughter, Sabrina Gayle, born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Stauffer (former Judy Broadstreet) of Tulsa, Okla.
