Marion Builders started their building project, breaking ground on the lot donated by the Longhofer brothers on South Third for a 50x100 foot senior citizens center. Among those participating were Mildred Siebert, J.L Fruechting, Father Gerald Pathe, David Blackim, Dale Koegeboehn, Bob Brookens, Mayor Peggy Blackman and Ezra Bernhardt. An estimated crowd of 200 people witnessed the groundbreaking and enjoyed a short program of dedication.

Tina Renee Ybarra, four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar D. Ybarra of Lost Springs, is a state finalist in a national contest, the 1980 Baby Miss America Pageant.

Marion has been approved by the state PRIDE Committee for meeting high standards of quality in agriculture and business. Marion now has been approved in 14 of 22 areas on their way to Pacemaker II, a distinction only two Kansas communities have achieved.

Officers of the Marion High School chapter of Future Farmers of America recently attended the annual leadership camp at Rock Springs Ranch. Students participating were Jenny McGuire, Doug Kjellin, Ron Wineinger and Brenda Ellis

Rhonda Williams, bride-elect of Brad Heerey, was complimented with a bridal shower July 21 in the fellowship hall of Eastmoor United Methodist Church. The shower was hosted by Mrs. Eugene Christensen and Ann, Mrs. J.B. Miesse, Mrs. Eldon Hett and Carol Regier.

The Camp Wood YMCA has been officially incorporated in Lyon County, and the camp is being readied for its first guests under the new directors.
