Winners in Tuesday's primary election were: Ed Wheeler (D) and Doug Westerhaus (R), county attorney; Lucille Britain, first district, and Earl Mueller, second district, county commission; John Crofoot, state senator; and June Jost, sheriff.

Fanned by 35-mile-an-hour winds, a raging grassfire destroyed 500 acres of pasture east of Marion on Wednesday causing an estimated $20,000 damage. Officials said an 11-year-old boy admitted starting the fire near Marion County Lake. The boy, who earlier had admitted setting eight grassfires during the past three weeks, was being held in juvenile detention at Wesley Medical Center.

The Florence Labor Day committee is looking for the first family of that community. The family will lead the parade and other activities during the Labor Day celebration Sept. 8. The following families have been selected: Leslie Allison, Rodney Williams, John Griffith, Tom Drake, Junior Grimmett, Alan Waner, Steve Janzen and Pat Swartz.

Double ring wedding rites solemnizing the marriage of Marlene Pfeiffer and John Goentzel were recited July 19 at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Tipton. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Kenneth Pfeiffer of Tipton and the late Mr. Pfeiffer. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Goentzel of Marion are parents of the groom.

Lance Ringler, one of the 29 out-of-town golfers who played in the Marion Open Golf Tournament the past weekend, won the event with a score of 69. The closest finishers from Marion were Jim Richmond and Jeff Leverenz, who turned in scores of 75 to tie for fourth place.
