A decade of service to the area through support of St. Luke Hospital will be observed Sept. 11 when members of the auxiliary to Marion County Hospital District No. 1 hold their annual meeting. The public is invited to attend.
Sheriff's officers and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers were called to at least six accidents in the area over the past week. One of the accidents took the life of a Wichita man. Two resulted in injuries to the drivers.
A replica of a 1930 Model A Ford roadster, complete with 18" whitewalls, has created a lot of attention from those who recall happy days, and nights, in such a vehicle. Gerry Harris has sold five of the six he ordered, built on a 1980 Pinto chassis, but is keeping a yellow beauty for his personal enjoyment.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Blackman have purchased Schoneman Shoe Store from Mrs. Homer Stenzel. They took over operation of the business on Tuesday. Millie Soyez, a longtime employee of the store, will remain with the Blackmans.
Marion has undergone a facelift lately with four new buildings going up and at least six businesses remodeling or adding to their present facilities. These include the new Senior Center, new IH Agency, new Clay Works, new hangar at the airport, new drilling office, new Mobil station, remodeled law office and bigger HRK store.
There was an ample crowd on hand at Florence throughout the three-day Labor Day holiday weekend. Artists and craftsmen brought their products, and curious onlookers shopped their stands selecting items that pleased.
