There's going to be a party, and everybody is invited. The annual affair starts at 6 p.m. Monday at the corner of Third and Main in Marion. All are asked to bring tools, brooms, weed whips, hoes or whatever else they need to cut weeds and make the downtown area more attractive for the PRIDE judges who will be in Marion Thursday and the Old Settlers who will be here Saturday.
Trailways Inc. of Wichita has filed an appeal in Sedgwick County District Court asking for reversal of a Kansas Corporation Commission decision that requires it to maintain bus service along U.S.-77 from Wichita to Lincoln, Neb., through Marion and Herington.
Alex H. Case, 82, one of Marion's most respected and highly regarded businessmen and community leaders, died Friday following an extended illness.
Pattie Sue Padgett of Florence and Cerita Konecny of Marion were recipients of the annual health care scholarships Thursday night at the 11th annual meeting of St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary. The presentations were made following a potluck dinner in Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
Greg Carlson, who has been employed with the Santa Fe Railroad and worked on a part-time basis at Dave's IGA in Marion, has been named assistant manager of the store. He will start full-time employment at the store on Friday.
Jack Webb of Marion shot a 153 for first place in the first flight competition of the second annual Marion Invitational Tournament held Saturday and Sunday at the Marion Country Club. Kent Richmond of Marion finished fourth in second flight competition.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bina and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Helmer, Julie Bina and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Helmer of Wichita met in Newton Sunday for dinner. After dinner they attended the state fair where Denice Bina entered two decorated cakes and a wheat weaving in the fair competition. Her Easter basket cake received a first place award and she placed second and third on the other entries.
