Residences and business properties in the Valley portion of Marion will be getting new water mains and Uncle Sam will foot the bill. The City of Marion project is being funded by a $300,000 federal community block grant administered by Flint Hills Regional Council.
Dennis and Dick Maggard are opening a NAPA parts distributorship in the front of the auto repair shop they've operated since last summer. The store, which opened Monday, replaces the antique furniture shop which their parents, Chuck and Helen, operated for a year.
Installation of the quadrabell carillon unit at Valley United Methodist Church was completed Monday, including four large speakers which will amplify music outdoors. The unit is a memorial to the late Mrs. A.L. Richardson, longtime member of the congregation.
Marion's representatives in Girls' State and Boys' State were honored at a covered dish dinner Sept. 16 at the Legion hall. Members, friends and families gathered to listen to the interesting reports given by Linda Williams, Joan Hiebert, Gena Helmer, Greg Boyle, Paul Loney and Bruce Winkler.
Births announced in this issue include: Jamie Marie Davis, daughter of Jim and Jan Davis of Marion; Jesse Phillip Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Smith of Lincolnville; and Robert Randall Conyers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Conyers of Wichita.
Thirty members of the Marion High School Class of 1940 and their spouses are expected Saturday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their graduation in connection with Old Settlers' Day festivities.
