JULY 4, 1968

There were several anxious moments along the Rock Island right of way at the north edge of Marion Sunday evening when a train car loaded with bombs was ablaze. There were at least three other cars loaded with high explosives near the car on fire. The car on fire contained naval bombs. The Marion Fire Department was called to the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. Firemen who put out the potentially dangerous blaze were John Britain, Ralph Popp, Harlow Warneke, and Junior Bredemeier.

Unique and fascinating aptly describes a visitor's first impression of the Owl Car Café. People can hardly be bothered to look over a menu because they are captivated by clocks. A newcomer to Marion is astounded by the variety in size, shape, kind, and age of the 24 clocks when entering the restaurant.
