Tom Poppe of Lincolnville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Poppe, has been named a semi-finalist in the 1967-68 National Merit Scholarship program, according to John Koepke, principal at Centre High School. Names of the finalists will be announced in May.
Thursday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mueller and Rochelle in honor of Paul Mueller, who will be leaving soon for another tour of duty, were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mueller, Barry and Jo Marie, Mrs. Ruth Mueller and Mrs. Matilda Mueller of Tampa, and Mr. and Mrs. B.H. "Pete" Mueller of Marion.
Mr. and Mrs. John Spachek were dinner guests of their children Saturday evening at the Lake Shore Club in Wichita. The occasion was to celebrate the Spacheks' 30th wedding anniversary and the birthdays of Mrs. Spachek, Robert and Carol.
Mrs. Norman Cooley of Indianapolis, Ind., brought three friends, Mrs. Vera Berry, Miss Mary Ward, and Mrs. Phyllis Bartel to Marion to do some fall shopping at her mother's store, Alta's Dress Shop. They were guests of Mrs. Alta Rains during their stay and she reports they certainly did enjoy their first visit to a town the size of Marion.
Cadet Richard Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hedrick Nelson of Burdick, has begun his senior year at the Air Force Academy with special honors for excellence. He has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll for academic achievement and selected for the position of element leader with the rank of cadet first lieutenant. Upon graduation, Cadet Nelson will be commissioned a second lieutenant.
The Marion Warriors, coached by LeRoy Dreier, have won their first three football games of the season. They defeated Moundridge 20-19, Chase County 54-0, and Hillsboro 27-0.
