Four happy youngsters were the lucky winners Thursday night in Marion's weekly drawing for kids. Bryan Taylor won a pair of roller skates, Diedre Reusser won a doll set, Terry Svoboda won a dart game, and Dot Lentz won a transistor radio. There will be another drawing this Thursday at 8 p.m. The drawing for the pony will be at 9 p.m. Dec. 21.
Marion High School administrators were among 400 Kansas high school principals and counselors who recently attended the Principal-Counselor Freshman Conference at Kansas State University. They met with recent high school graduates and discussed the transition from high school to university programs. Administrators and recent MHS graduates attending were David Fruth, counselor, Mary Schimpf, Michael Wood, Charles Seifert, Jackie Thomas, and James Weinmann, principal.
Dear Santa: I wanted to let you know that Brenda, Valerie and I will be in Missouri at Mary Beth's house for Christmas. I have been good and would like a race track and Lite-Brite game for Christmas. Valerie wants a rocking chair. We will have some cookies and milk for you. Nathan and Valerie Smith.
The Durham High School German class accompanied their teacher Gerhard Ziech, Mrs. Godfrey Klein, and Mrs. Gary Mueller to Wichita Dec. 7 to eat at a German restaurant, the Rhinelander. After dinner all attended the movie, "To Sir With Love." Students were LuElla Redger, Irma Winter, Dale Christiansen, JoAnn Frick, Connie Klein, Sharon Kaiser, and Carolyn Ollenburger.
Major Edwin W. Martin Jr., nephew of Mr. and Mrs. John Riddle of Salina, formerly of Marion, has been posthumously awarded the Silver Star medal for gallantry in action in Vietnam. Major Martin also was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, and the Bronze Star medal. Before entering the service, he spent a good deal of time in Marion. At one time he lived here and attended Marion schools.
