A hospital district will be proposed to people in the eastern half of Marion County for the purpose of taking over ownership and operation of which is now the St. Luke Hospital in Marion. An agreement has been reached with the Sisters and the next step is to establish the district. The Sisters have announced they will leave Marion June 1. The hospital district must be organized and in operation before that time.
Private First Class Larry Heidel, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Heidel, was reported as wounded in action with his unit in Vietnam on Thursday, Jan. 19. His condition was described as serious. He had suffered shrapnel wounds to both arms and legs. Early Wednesday morning, the Heidels received a telephone call from Larry, who had been moved to a hospital in Japan. He will be in the hospital about two months, then will return to active duty in the war zone.
Mrs. Dwight Kruse was the honored guest at a surprise birthday party Wednesday evening when Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kruse invited the Dwight Kruses, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Krispense and Melissa, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Meisinger for homemade ice cream and cake.
Phillips Petroleum Company announced this week that W.R. "Rex" Berry, manager of the S&S Oil Company station in Marion has been selected as the fourth quarter territory winner in the Kansas district in the company "Good Neighbor" program. The award is made on neatness and general good station management.
The RECORD received a letter this week from Rose Patterson Borger of Concord, Calif., alerting us to the fact that Eli House, one of Marion's senior citizens, has become a great-great-great-grandfather. Mrs. Borger states that on Jan. 12, the 18-year-old great-great-granddaughter of Mr. House, Kathryn Joyce Patterson Grove, give birth to a 9 pound baby girl. Mrs. Grove is the daughter of B.M. Patterson, formerly of Marion.
