The Marion County courthouse is taking on a new appearance this week, with sandblasting work started by the Central States Waterproofing Co. of Fort Scott. The courthouse will not only be more attractive, but the sandblasting was a necessary maintenance measure.

Miss Kaye Applegate, daughter of Superintendent and Mrs. Jack M. Applegate, was selected Queen of the Court, Friday night at the annual Marion High School homecoming game. Attendants were Michelle Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hett, and Teresa Seifert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Seifert.

Thirteen wild turkeys, five toms and eight hens, were released in the Flint Hills of Chase County this past week by the Kansas Fish and Game Commission. The experiment is to determine if the turkeys will survive and reproduce in the Flint Hills.

Jim Ottensmeier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levern Ottensmeier left Kansas City Feb. 12 for Lackland Air Force Base and will be there six weeks for basic training.

Marion Boy Scouts entertained members of the Kiwanis Club Monday noon with a display of the most common knots, and also showed how to tie some of the more complex ones. Earl Winter, Scoutmaster, presided at the program with Ricky Schwendiman, First Class Scout, as master of ceremonies. Other Scouts on the program were Daryl Enos, First Class, and Roger Hannaford, Henry Bingaman, and Ricky Carlson, all Second Class Scouts.

Ten music students from Marion High School have been selected to participate this Friday and Saturday in the clinic band and chorus sponsored by the Kansas Music Educators Association at Wichita. Beverly Hoch, Julianne Meier, Bryce Ollenberger, and Bill Schlehuber will sing in the clinic choir. Playing in the band will be Greg Bowers, Cindy Powell, Madeline Thompson, Dan Steinel, Mike Steinel, and Susan Yeagley.
