Stan Kenton, world-famous band leader, will appear as a special guest artist at Tabor College, Hillsboro, at 3 p.m. March 6. He will present a demonstration lecture on Jazz. Kenton is considered one of the world's outstanding jazz artists.

James W. Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Werner A. Mueller of Tampa, is serving aboard the U.S. Seventh Fleet attack aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga off the coast of North Vietnam. The mission of the Ticonderoga is to stop the flow of enemy war supplies along the routes from North to South Vietnam.

The third of four authorized reservoir projects on the upper Grand (Neosho) River Basin went into flood control operation Monday with the closure of the gates at the Marion Dam, according to Col. Harley W. Ladd, Tulsa District Engineer, U.S. Army Engineers.

This year three Marion High School juniors will attend Sunflower Boys State at Lawrence from June 2 through 8. The boys are Gary Melcher, Mike Steinel, and Greg Bowers. Alternates are Gary Wiens, Barry Mueller, and David McGinness.

The annual men's bowling tournament was completed this week at MarBowl Lanes. Entered in the team event were 39 teams, in doubles 77, in singles 154, and in all events 147. The team event was won by the Christian church team, doubles by Bob Thompson and John Bauman, singles by R.J. Bateman, and all events by Stanley Konarik.

Mrs. Magdalene Bentz of Tampa missed $150 in this week's Cash Day drawing. Arthur Hamm of Marion received $20, Edith Collinge of Marion received $5, Milton Schlotthauer of Marion missed $5, and Carl Gutsch of Lincolnville missed $15.

Girl Scout Troop 60 met Tuesday and elected the following officers: Janet Druse, troop nurse; Ann Higgins, troop treasurer; and Janelle Dreier, troop scribe. Carol Steinle bought the treats.
