Five junior students from Marion High School will be delegates to the Sunflower Boys' and Girls' State activities in Lawrence this summer. They are Greg Bowers, Gary Melcher, Mike Steinel, Beverly Hoch, and Tammy Case.
Sharon Kroupa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa and an eighth grader at Pilsen Grade School, was winner of the Marion County Spelling Bee held Thursday in Marion. She also was the winner last year. Second place winner was Janet Bartel, an eighth grader at Lehigh. Kim Oblander, an eighth grader from Durham, was third place winner.
There was an extremely good turnout at the polls in Marion Tuesday when Mayor Lynn Christensen was re-elected for a three year term.
Gary Melcher, Marion junior, sparked the Warrior thinclads to a second place victory out of 26 teams entered in the Class B competition Saturday at the Sterling relays. Melcher placed first in both the discus and shot put. Other Marion winners were Jim Darrow, third in the 100 yard dash; Dennis Knoblock, fifth in the 440 yard run; and the mile relay team which took third place.
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Hett announce the birth of a daughter, Barbara Beth, April 2 at Salem Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces.

Beverly Hoch and John Loney gave orations and an informative talk at this week's Marion Kiwanis Club meeting.
St. Mark Catholic Church is refurnishing the interior of the church. The interior has been painted, a new red drape is being hung behind the altar, and new gold carpeting has been laid throughout the church.
Wayne Tiede, a senior at Centre High School, has been awarded the coveted Walter H. Beech scholarship in aeronautical engineering at Wichta State University.
