German Television has notified the Marion County Record that a five man film crew will be in Marion from Saturday until Monday. The intention of the visit to Marion is to show the people in Germany how a "typical mid-western town" lives, plays, and worships.
Seven high school students left at 8 p.m. Wednesday from Florence on a Santa Fe train for the annual Easter trip to the east coast. Over 800 students are making the tour. They will spend time in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York City. Those making the trip from Marion are Nancy Olsen, Kathy Weber, Gerald Wiens, Bryce Ollenberger, Marilyn Leppke, Galen Helmer, and Marsha Cowan.
Mary Westerhaus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Westerhaus of Marion, has been selected to attend the German Summer Language Institute in Holzkirchen, Germany, this summer. The institute is sponsored by the University of Kansas where she is a sophomore majoring in German and music education.
Bradley Herbel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Herbel, was guest of honor Tuesday evening of a party at his parents' home in celebration of his fifth birthday. Guests included Mrs. Robert Jirak, Kevin, Tim, and Rodney, Mrs. Raymond Thompson, Tony and Ricky, Mrs. Larry Jordan, Danny and Lori of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Bradley's brother, Daryl.
The operetta, "The Magic Fiddle," will be presented Friday by students of Marion Elementary School. A few of the special characters are portrayed by Deborah Enos, Martha Beaston, Claire Fruechting, Tom Britain, Diana Case, John Popp, and Curtis Strum. A bit of light-hearted atmosphere is added by Roger Schmidtberger, who plays the part of the hurdy-gurdy man, and Charles Tajchman, his monkey.
