Bud Pierce this week announced that he has purchased the building formerly owned by Seymour Foods, Inc. It will now be the main office and warehouse for Pierce Oil Co. and Fertilizer Service. Glenn Hoover has been employed as office manager and will take phone calls and meet customers who are interested in Conoco bulk delivery or farm chemicals.

Major Richard H. "Dick" Schwartz has left the United States for a four month cruise in the Mediterranean Sea, as executive officer of a battalion landing team which is comprised of 1,400 men from the Third Battalion of the Eighth Marines and their component. When Major Schwartz returns to the United States in August, he will be stationed at Quantico where he will be an instructor.

Martin Bina, popular Marion barber, has been called to active duty with the Kansas National Guard. He will close his barbershop after this Saturday, May 4.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger H. Morse announce the engagement of their daughter, Jean Marie, to James E. Slater, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph V. Slater of Montague, Mich. The wedding is being planned for August 24.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Rockney Hett of Marion announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, at St. Luke Hospital on Friday, April 26. She weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and has been named Wendy Elizabeth.

Cheerleaders were elected Monday at Centre High School. The five A-team cheerleaders are Karen Anderson, Kathy Bernhardt, Rosalie Bentz, Kris Pagenkopf, and Marcia Peyton. The four B-team cheerleaders are Gloria Bentz, Ruth Noone, Sandy Sturgis, and Susie Klenda.
