Several men from this area have been called up for active duty in the Kansas National Guard. They include Bob Berg, John Kline, Martin Bina, Willis Kreutziger, Wayne Kreutziger, Larry Rudolph, Robert Holub, Gary Hamm, Rodney Herzet, Bernard Weber, Donald Bezdek, Richard Meisinger, Dean Pippin, Bob Boese, Roy Van Buren, and possibly several others.

Charles G. Hall, 48, has been named administrator of St. Luke Hospital. Announcement was made today of his appointment for F.R. Knautz, executive director of the Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society of Fargo, N.D. He will begin his duties when the society assumes operation of the hospital on June 1.

Cathy Coe was pleasantly surprised Sunday afternoon when her mother invited some girl friends to help her celebrate her 16th birthday. The afternoon was spent playing badminton. Refreshments of cake and pop were served to Vickie Boese, Janelle Klose, Rita Stika, Donna Ewert, Shirley Helmer, and Vicky Klassen.

Carol Bowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bowers of Marion, was selected "Teen Queen" by the Kansas Campers and Hikers Association at their spring campout in Chanute over the recent week. Carol, a freshman at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, was one of 19 contestants. She will represent Kansas at the ninth annual National Campers and Hikers convention July 15-18 at DuQuoin, Ill.

Several Marion County students are among about 1,000 selected as finalists for tuition awards for the coming college year, according to the Kansas Department of Public Instruction. Semi-finalists include Dan Conyers, Denise Fetrow, Florence; Ruth Goertz, Goessel; Rosanne Funk, Marilyn Harms, Annette Jost, Hillsboro; Derald Carlson, Glenn Meyer, Thomas Poppe, Centre; John Loney, Dan Steinel, Susan Yeagley, Marion; and Charles Booth, Phyllis Larsen, Lillian Sigle, Peabody.
