Miss Maude Thompson, Marion's beloved and thoroughly dedicated teacher, who has served the profession of public schools education for 51 years, will retire at the end of this semester. She presently is principal of Bown-Corby School, but has served the local system in many different teaching assignments during her 44 years of tenure here.
Cadette Girl Scouts of Troop 62, the PG&W (polite, green, and white) patrol have purchased two trees as a part of the Marion beautification program. Scouts in the patrol are Karen Pankratz, Jo Marie Mueller, Becky Wood, Lisa Holmes, Debra Heidel, Dotty Lentz, Debra Link, Teresa Case, Kathy McCoy, Cathy Newlin, and Jeannie Widler.
Roxanna Zerger, current queen of the Marion County Fair, attended the Miss Hutchinson Pageant May 3 at the Hutchinson Convention Hall. Miss Zerger and her chaperone, Mrs. Boyce Baumgardner, also attend the dinner for Miss America at the Baker Hotel.
Members of Brownie Scout troops 56 and 64 observed a "fly-up" ceremony Monday afternoon at the Legion hall. Girls "flying-up" from Brownie Scouts to Junior Scouts were Cindy Harris, Julie Zerger, Michelle Mellott, Carol Colburn, LeFran McGranor, Mary Lentz, Ann Christensen, Teresa Enos, Yvonne Heidel, Jeanne Koslowsky, Barbara McCarty, Lori Schmidtberger, Khrista Van Buren, Teresa Waner, and Diane Woerz.
Coach Rex Wilson's Marion Warrior thinclads will enter five events Friday and Saturday in the state track meet at Salina. Those earning a spot at state are Gary Melcher, shotput, javelin, and discus; the 880 relay team (Dennis Knoblock, Kerry Domke, Charles Pankratz, and Gary Melcher); and the mile relay team (Dennis Knoblock, Kerry Domke, Charles Pankratz, and Charles McElwain).
