A brand new $15,000 fire truck is the latest piece of equipment added to the Marion Fire Department and one that the entire area may well be proud of, for it has the very finest devices available for fighting fires. The truck will be used for rural fires and for emergency only within the city limits.
Irvin R. "Poppy" Gerstenkorn of Marion made a nice catch recently at the Marion County Park and Lake. Two nice flatheads were caught by him May 20. One weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces and the other weighed 3 pounds even.
Mr. and Mrs. Harlow Warneke entertained with a dinner Sunday honoring the confirmation of their daughter, Gerry, earlier that day at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Anita Rudolph of Lincolnville will be one of 67 graduates June 26 of the St. Francis School of Nursing. Commencement exercises will be held in St. Mary's Cathedral with the Most Reverend David M. Maloney, Bishop of Wichita, delivering the address.
John R. Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams of Marion, recently was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in the regular United States Navy at China Lake, Calif., where he is a weapons development project pilot.
Dr. Earl Wood was the winner of the first flight and medalist of the annual Marion Country Club Memorial Day golf classic, with a one under par score of 69 for 18 holes. Rosse Case was second with a score of 70. Case won the prize for the longest drive, Harlow Warneke won the longest putt award, and Bob Edmunds took closest to the pin honors.
Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Pope observed their 50th wedding anniversary June 2 at a reception hosted by their children and grandchildren at the Durham High School music room.
