Volunteer Candy Stripers at St. Luke Hospital, have rendered many hours of helpful services at the hospital during the past year. To commemorate National Hospital Week, the teenage Candy Stripers met at the hospital cafeteria for their monthly meeting and annual awards. Nancy Olsen received special recognition for donating 108 hours of service. Ranking second was Becky Coe with 86 and Tammy Case, third with 84 hours.
Kevin Jirak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jirak, was honored Saturday with a birthday party at his home. The following youngsters helped him celebrate his fourth birthday: Gary Ehrlich, Bruce Winkler, Nathan Smith, Bradley Herbel, Jeff Jirak, Lisa Richmond, Darryl Herbel, Timmy Jirak, and Rodney Jirak.
Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Russell attended commencement exercises at Kansas State University Sunday afternoon. Their son, John, received his master's of science degree in geology.
Laurence Webster, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marium Webster of Marion, has been named "Soldier of the Month" for May in the 14th Army Security Agency Field Station in Japan.
Robert Suderman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Suderman of south of Hillsboro, left from Wichita last Tuesday for New York. From there he will fly to Berlin, Germany, where he will study during the summer months.
Rose Marie Loveless, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Loveless, graduated from McPherson College magna cum laude with a major in English. Before beginning a teaching career, she will serve in the United States Navy for two years. She goes to Newport, R.I., the latter part of August to complete her training and receive her assignment.
