Marion County farmers are busy this week with combines, cutting swaths of waving grain fields and transporting the golden grain to ready elevators. The price is low and much of the wheat is going into storage anticipating the day when the market will take an up turn.
Red Cross swimming lessons this summer have attracted great numbers at Marion Municipal Pool. Ron Druse, director of the pool, has a staff of 24 besides six life guards. Swimming instructors are Beverly Elling, Mark Applegate, Susan Yeagley, Brad Case, Jeanne Keazer, Denise Wiens, Linda Oldham, Connie Bina, Tamara Case, Douglas Keazer, Debra Duke, Ginger Helmer, Patricia Wood, Janice Jantz, Roxie Hague, Lucinda Jost, Marsha Cowan, Susan Marler, Pamela Slusser, Brenda Helmer, and Sandra Anderson.
Mrs. George Docking, wife of a former governor and mother of the present governor of Kansas, was speaker Thursday afternoon at a meeting of the Marion County Democratic Women's Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Bernhardt of rural Marion announce the birth of a daughter, Diane Elaine, June 18 at Salem Hospital, Hillsboro.
The Marion County Record office was visited Wednesday afternoon by several interested Cub Scouts who took a tour of the newspaper plant. The group included Marc Smith, Chris Jost, Mike Klose, Mark Rindt, David Rittgers, denner Henry Bingaman, and den mother Mrs. Forrest Smith.
Miss Mary Jo Stika of Peabody and Ladd Siebert of Marion were united in marriage June 1 at St. Mark Catholic Church.
John Michael Loney and Daniel Steinel of Marion and Thomas V. Poppe of Lincolnville were among 245 new University of Kansas students who attended the third of eight KU Previews this summer. In the two and one half day program, they met with deans and academic advisers. The boys took placement examinations and pre-enrolled for the fall semester.
