The entire town of Marion and surrounding communities received damages early Friday morning when high winds whipped at rates of from 80 to 110 miles per hour lasting from before 2 a.m. to almost 3. Marion streets and yards were filled with downed wires and tree limbs. There also was considerable damage to many structures here and in the other areas.
Cub Scouts of Den I, along with assistant den mother, Mrs. Eugene Christensen, met July 26 at the home of their den mother, Mrs. Bob Kelly, for a day of cooking, games, and handicraft. Boys in Den I are Tim Christensen, Kevin Fruechting, Terry Fruechting, Tim Hett, Bob Hett, Mike Klose, and Pat Kelly.
The Pilsen Cookie team defeated Hillsboro Saturday night and won the Tri-County Tournament held at Burdick. Members of the team are Tim Holub, Ronald Vinduska, Gary Holub, Valentine Klenda, Pat Holub, Marion Bina, Vince Klenda, Kenny Bezdek, and Kenny Steiner. Coaches are Laverne Bina and Sylvin Holub.
The "Look Who's Here" column includes the following births at St. Luke Hospital: Barbara Marie Sly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry N. Sly of Herington; Michael Ernest Bina, son of Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Bina of Marion; Melissa Gail Krispense, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Krispense of Marion; and Mark Francis Makovec, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Makovec of Marion.
Approximately 40 Californians, formerly from Kansas, attended the fifth annual Kansas family picnic held July 7 at Micke Grove near Lodi, Calif. Among those signing the register were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Deines, Hannah Henderson, Amelia Hansen, and Elizabeth Weimer, former residents of Tampa; Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Young, Margaret Ehrhardt, Hannah Young, Martha Schwemmer, and Katherine Ehrhardt, formerly of Ramona; Darlene Van Sant, a former resident of Durham; and Maxine Spradling of Peabody.
