Members of James William Miesse American Legion Post 22 were honored for their 50 years of continuous membership at a special banquet Thursday evening in the post's clubroom. The six members able to be present were John Ely, Ollie Wight, Alfred Kirchner, Alex H. Case, Earl Kreuter, and C.J. Mehl. Others honored but unable to be present were E.L. "Bud" Cavannah, Jay E. Hargett, Marvin J. Peterson, and Cecil Bruner.
Harlem Thrillers, professional clown basketball team, will play the Marion Mashers in Marion Monday night. The Mashers team is comprised of Jay Jost, Gerry Harris, Boyce Baumgardner, Don Druse, Jim Link, Dennis Bolen, and Warren Vogel.
Harold Schlotthauer, who grew up in Marion, is now the general manager of the San Mateo, California, Daily Times. His newspaper took an active part in the campaign of Shirley Temple Black in her unsuccessful bid for nomination to Congress.
A CYO Deanery one-act play contest was held Sunday at Tampa. Pilsen placed first. Members of the cast of "Such a Nice Girl" were Kathy Holub, Caroline Klenda, Tom Stroda, Connie Bina, Frank Holub, and Terry Stroda. The play was directed by Mrs. Ernest Bina. The Marion CYO took second place and the Tampa CYO, third.
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hannaford, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Case Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Rosse Case attended the homecoming festivities in Emporia Saturday evening.
Leslie B. Allison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olin Allison of Florence, is one of nine seniors in agricultural education at K-State, who are participating in the student teacher program of the university. He is teaching in the Council Grove High School as a practice teacher in the vocational agriculture department of the school.
