There were several "near winners" in the annual Marion County Record first baby contest for 1969. Three cribs were occupied in the nursery at St. Luke Hospital, but the winner was little Miss New Year, Annette Marie Koehn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Koehn Jr. of Burns. Annette Marie was born on New Year's Day. Close behind were Douglas Dean Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Williams, who was born Jan. 3, and Kevin Edward Krch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Florian Krch of Lincolnville, who was born Jan. 4.
S.W. "Scottie" Gound announced today that he has leased his building on Main Street (former Ford agency) to the A.L. Duckwall Co. The existing building will virtually be rebuilt. The new store will be larger than the former store which was destroyed by fire on Monday of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Marion Summervill of Denver will be among the sponsors to accompany the Lakewood, Colo., high school band to Washington, D.C. for the inauguration of President-elect Nixon.
Dr. and Mrs. T.C. Ensey are spending ten days in the Dominican Republic where they will be associated with a team comprised of other medical doctors and professional people helping to teach the residents how to better care for themselves.
A new Kansas Highway Patrol trooper has been authorized for Marion County. He is John Stultz, who will live in Marion. Trooper Stultz will work with Trooper Frank Boyle, who also lives in Marion. He will start work January 12.
