New kitchen facilities in the basement of the Marion Municipal Building are nearly complete. Featured are additional work area and storage space, two new ranges, two new sinks, Formica cabinet tops, and plenty of electrical outlets.
Sergeant Stanley H. Sharping, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Sharping of Hillsboro, has been decorated with his second award of the Air Medal at Luke AFB, Arizona. Sergeant Sharping was decorated for his meritorious achievement as a CH-3E flight engineer in Southeast Asia. On Jan. 11, 1968, he participated in a difficult mission deep in hostile territory to effect the rescue of a friendly ground team.
The Marion County Health Department has completed giving tuberculosis skin tests to all freshmen (ninth grade) students in all the schools of Marion County.
Cathy Coe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Coe, received her cap Thursday evening at a special recognition meeting at St. Luke Hospital for working 311 volunteers hours as a Candy Striper at St. Luke Hospital. Girls who worked over 100 hours are: Coe; Kathy Bezdek 146, Lucinda Jost 235, Brenda Helmer 201, Debbi Case 165, Vickie Klassen 161, Betty Sue Linn 144, Jan Lawrence 142, Rose Goentzel 142, Pam Griffith 126, and Sue Wood 101.
Army Private David H. Goertz, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus H. Goertz, Marion, arrived in Vietnam Nov. 20 and was assigned to the America Division's 196th Light Infantry Brigade near Chu Lai, Vietnam, as a light weapons infantryman.
Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Kerbs, Tampa, entertained with a dinner Sunday in honor of the 11th birthday of their daughter, Connie. Following dinner, the girls were taken to Salina for a skating party. Those attending were Julie Hensley, Jayne Kleiber, Penny Ford, Susan Hajek, Timothy Kerbs, Mark Moffitt, Glenn Kerbs, Sandy Sturgis of Burdick, and Russell Kerbs.
James J. Ryan of Florence was a business visitor in Marion on Monday afternoon of this week.
