Marion County rancher Arthur L. Lewerenz, 38, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter by Judge A.B. Fletcher Jr., Junction City, in Marion County District Court Friday. Fletcher also ruled the defendant sane at the time he committed the crime. No date for sentencing was set.
In a busy day's work Monday, county commissioners agreed to build a new hall at the county lake from revenue sharing funds.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Applegate announce the engagement of their daughter, Kaye Marlene, to James Leroy Darrow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Darrow. They will exchange marriage vows on March 10th.
Marion High School students participated in the sixth district Kansas Music Educators Association honor chorus and band at Wichita State University on Jan. 13. Those selected for the chorus were Deb Link, Becky Wood, Bev Bowers, Ed Hett, Richard Britain, Dennis Schafers and Barry Seifert. Chosen as instrumental participants were Pat Heins and Joni Kroupa, both on the trumpet.
Sharon Mellies of Edmond, Oklahoma, has been hired by the executive board of the Marion County Extension Council as the new home economist for the county. She will begin her duties here on March 1.
The Marion PRIDE committee, in cooperation with the county extension office staff and K-State, is in the process of conducting a comprehensive survey of housing needs for the town of Marion. Information gained from the survey will be used to plan for further needs in housing in the community.
Wet roads, snow and ice were blamed for a rash of accidents in Marion County during the past week.
