A family recreation center to be known as "The Q" will open in Marion within the next couple of weeks. The new business will be located at the corner of Main and Cedar streets. It will be owned by Gerry Harris, Harlow Warneke, and Gene Winkler.
The ground hog finally got to see his shadow late Sunday afternoon, Feb. 2. That means, by the old believers, six weeks more of bad weather. We hope not after having three weeks of bad and cold weather already. Sunny days would be more than welcome.
Kathy Kay Winter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Winter of Marion, has been named the 1969 Betty Crocker "Homemaker of Tomorrow," for Marion High School. The winner named at Centre High School, reported two weeks ago, was Sue Henke. The winner at Durham High School was Valora Redger.
Jimmy Dreier invited the boys from his first grade class to a birthday party Monday after school. Those who helped Jimmy celebrate his seventh birthday were Billy Turner, Brian Allen, Bruce Williams, Danny Naden, Gary Ehrlich Rodney Schmidt, Wayne Worden, Billy Turk, and Randy Richmond.
Litterbug posters have been numerous around Marion the past few days with 177 displayed in stores and shop windows. Posters were judged last week by members of the federated women's club. Winners were as follows: Fourth grade, Chris Jost and Terry Enos; Fifth grade, Kathy Edmunds and Tim Zerger; Sixth grade, Jean May and Connie McLinden; Seventh and Eighth grade, John Popp. Other winners are Jim Coe, Carol Holt, Carol Steinel, Janet Stika, and Janet Ehrlich.
Danny and Terry Holub, who have completed their basic training in the U.S. Navy, are spending a few days with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Holub and family.
Sunday will be "Nodie Baker Day" at the Marion Christian Church. Not just because Mr. Baker will be 95 on Monday, Feb. 10, but this a part of the reason for the celebration, for he has been one of Marion's stalwart citizens and continues to be one at that age.
