A wet blanket of snow, ten inches deep, fell on Marion County Friday and Saturday. It stayed where it fell with no drifting and was welcomed by area farmers. The snow netted .32 inches of moisture and another flurry fell this Thursday morning.

A truck loaded with liquor was hit by a Rock Island train Saturday afternoon on K-15 in Durham. The driver of the Kansas Wholesale Liquor Distributors truck, out of Salina, applied his brakes, but the truck slid on the snow-packed road onto the tracks. The cab was torn away from the bed and liquor was scattered along the right of way. It is reported only 26 bottles were broken. More would have been except they landed in the snow. The driver was not injured.

Three more Candy Stripers were "capped" this past week at St. Luke Hospital by Mrs. Sally Penner, R.N., director of nursing at St. Luke. The girls are Lucinda Jost, Kathy Bezdek, and Brenda Helmer. In addition, four girls received pins for working 50 hours. They are Denise Schlehuber, Diane Weber, Gerry Warneke, and Joanie Elling.

Tim Zerger invited, on Sunday, a number of boys to help him celebrate his 11th birthday. After an afternoon of playing basketball at the gym, the following boys went to the Peter Pan store for refreshments: Terry Smith, Dart Henry, Ronnie Ehrlich, Tim Christensen, Mark Ottensmeier, Stephen Bryant, Ricky Just, Bob Robinson, and Brook Beaston.

Three Marion High School girls are candidates for Homecoming "Queen of Courts" this Friday evening. They are Mary Beth Kjellin, Tamara Case, and Roxanne Hague.

Two Marion High School girls from the junior class have been named delegates to the 27th annual Sunflower Girls State to be held June 8-15 on the University of Kansas campus at Lawrence. The girls are Rebecca Lentz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Lentz, and Anita Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Hett. Alternates named were Cathy Coe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Coe, and Patsy Wood, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Earl Wood.
