Albert Bernhardt and Homer Stiller were given the honor of burning a replica of the note, or mortgage, Sunday when the congregation of Eastmoor United Methodist Church had a special celebration ceremony to mark the event.
Marion County Commissioners met Thursday in special session to pay county bills and let a contract for building a community building at Marion County Lake. The building contract was awarded to Max Car, low bidder, at $33,199.15.
Donald D. Kelsey, 50, was critically injured Monday when he received a severe blow to his head in a machinery accident at the Clear Creek bridge south of Antelope. He died Tuesday afternoon in a Wichita hospital. Kelsey, a competent operator of heavy machinery and a county employee, was working the crane for a crew removing tree limbs and other debris which obstructed the flow of creek water.
Terry Conyers, a junior at Tabor College and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Conyers, has been hired as one of two interns in the McPherson County Probation and Juvenile Office.
Kaye Applegate, bride-elect of Jim Darrow, was honored with a grocery shower March 4 in the basement of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Hostesses for the event were Mrs. Pete Mueller, Mrs. Ruben Winter, Mrs. Earl Mueller, and Mrs. August Ollek.
Five parishes of Region III, Catholic Youth Organization, held their annual talent contest Sunday at St. Mark's Activity Center. Monica and Jacintha Konecny, Pilsen CYO, won first place in the group entries with their piano and solo rendition of "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from "Jesus Christ Superstar." Dennis Schafers, Marion CYO, took first place in the single division with an interpretation of Cyrano de Bergerac.
