Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Wight, owners of Thompson Funeral Home since 1945 and affiliated with it for many years prior to that time, announced this week that they sold their business to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Harp of Hutchinson effective March 1.
Bill Finke, local "combinationman" for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, has again won first place in the Hutchinson district for the "best community dial office." Bill won the award in 1965, 1967, and 1968. He took second place in 1966.
Sergeant Max Robertson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Robertson of Marion, is on active duty in Korea with the Air Fore. He has written a letter to the Aulne Methodist Church asking that some help be given for an orphanage there.
Rex Savage, Florence, won first place in seventh grade biological science competition at the eighth annual Science Fair Feb. 28 at Tabor College, Hillsboro. Eighth graders Eddie Griffith and Jeff Longhofer received the second place award.
Helen Jackson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Jackson, left Saturday on the annual spring tour of the Friends University "Singing Quakers."
School friends of Denise Wiens were invited to a birthday dinner Friday evening in honor of her 16th birthday. Guests included Sandy Anderson, Ginger Helmer, Rae Jean Woerz, Pam Griffith, Debbi Case, Shelley Batt, Donna Parish, Melanie Hett, Sue Wood, Karen Kjellin, Brenda Helmer, Brenda Foth, Pam Slusser, Denise Schlehuber, Lucinda Jost, Patty Regnier, Janet Lawrence and Jonell Friesen.
The children of Mr. and Mrs. John Adams took them to dinner in Peabody Sunday noon in honor of their 52nd wedding anniversary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Giesbrecht, Wayne and Dale of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Adams and family of McPherson, Mr. and Mrs. George Helmer and Brenda, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Conyers and sons.
