This week's issue deals mostly with cleanup following the tornado that hit Marion and the surrounding community on March 2. There are many photographs and stories about the various homes and businesses which received damage and with the repairs and cleanup.
Five generations were in attendance at a celebration Sunday at the recreation hall at Marion County Park and Lake honoring the 80th birthday of Mrs. Cora Ella McCarty. Those pictured were Mrs. McCarty, her son Gene McCarty, Gene's daughter Patricia Adams of McPherson, her daughter Pamela Maher of McPherson and Pamela's daughter Amanda Jo.
Pat Loney celebrated his 10th birthday March 6th with a party after school. Invited guests were his fourth grade classmates: Randy Just, Allan Richmond, Bill Silhan, Billy Edmunds, Tim Vogel, Mike Fruechting, Gary Ewert, Richard Robert, Darrin Helmer, Scott Miesse, David Bryant, Dean Seifert, Jerald Waner, Layne Reusser, Ronald Kristek, Jeff Griffith, Mike Carr, Tom Richmond, Larry Casey, Mike Thompson, Jerry Winkley, Roger Ford, Art Gery, and Pat's brothers and sister, Paul, Stephanie, and Thomas Loney.
Norman Ray Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mueller of Marion, has been nominated at the University of Kansas as one of four students to be considered in the federal government's new Washington summer intern program.
Services for William W. Moneypeny, 77, retired Southwestern College professor were held last Thursday at Winfield. He was formerly an outstanding coach and principal of Marion High School in the 1920s.
