An unexpected late snow storm hit Marion County and nearly all of Kansas Friday night, bringing traffic to a halt in many areas and causing a lot of problems. About four to six inches fell in Marion County but winds caused considerable drifting.

Another big land auction was held in Marion on Monday of this week when the Stenzel Estate land was sold. One hundred six acres of bottom land one mile west of Marion sold for $426 per acre to Irma P. Kreutziger of Wichita. A half section of grass land between Clements and Matfield Green in Chase County sold for $121 per acre to Alfred Mercer, a rancher from the area.

Seniors at Marion High School, under the direction of Ken Forsyth, will present the play, "The Mouse That Roared," March 18. Students portraying the major characters are Roxie Hague, Bryce Ollenberger, Mike Steinel, Barry Mueller, Doug Westerhaus, and Greg Bowers.

Army Pfc. Leroy Christner of Lost Springs is a patient at the U.S. Army hospital at Sukiran, Okinawa, and is pictured in this issue visiting with Joe Namath, New York Jets football star. Namath was leading a group of sports stars recently on a tour of overseas military hospitals sponsored by the U.S.O. Christner's leg was broken two months ago during combat duty.

At the regular monthly meeting of the Cub Scout Pack, Cubmaster Winton Smith presented awards to the following Cubs: Rustin Meier, Pat Loney, Ronald Kristek, David Bryant, Layne Reusser, Marc Smith, Steven Smith, Steven Bryant, and Jim Hoch.

Delora Brunner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brunner of Lost Springs and a senior at Centre High School, was crowned as homecoming queen February 7 by Rod Mueller. Her attendants were Kathy Bernhardt, Kathryn Schroer, Karen Anderson, and Marcia Payton.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wegerer of Marion received word this week that their son Carmen has been promoted to the rank of sergeant while serving in the Air Force in Korea. He hopes to be discharged in June.
